Hi, I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com. Today, we will be profiling the most visited city in Portugal: Lisbon.
Lisbon has enough sites1 and facilities around the capital to make it your favourite tourist destination. Lisbon is the capital and largest city of Portugal. It has a municipal population of over 564.000, while the Lisbon metropolitan1 area in total has around 2.8 million inhabitants.
Lisbon is the westernmost1 capital in Europe. It is located in the west of the country on the Atlantic coast1 at the point where the river Tagus flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Lisbon lies in both the Atlantic and Mediterranean climatic1 zones, thereby enjoying a pleasantly temperate1 climate year-round. Its mean annual temperature1 is 63 degrees Fahrenheit, with average1 temperature is in winter of 55 and 80 in the summer. July and August are the hottest1, driest1 months, while November to February are the wettest1 and coldest1.
The city of Lisbon is rich in architecture1 : romanesque, gothic, baroque, traditional Portuguese1, modern and postmodern constructions1 can be found all over the city. The city is also1 crossed by great boulevards1 and monuments particularly in the upper districts.
A city is set on seven hills1 with its cobblestone pavements and narrow1 streets full of art nouveau cafes1. You will find yourself wandering through colorful1 eighteenth-century squares downtown1 and getting lost in the medieval1 maze of the Alfama district overlooked by an ancient castle1.
The charm1 of Lisbon exists in its strong links to the past: renovated palaces, magnificent churches1 and an impressive castle mirror the city’s rich cultural heritage. Its eclectic blend of neighborhoods, culture and architecture distinguish this capital city uniquely1 from the other European capitals and make it a truly1 fascinating and comprehensive city to visit. Lisbon is a legendary1 city with over 20 centuries of history.
But Lisbon isn’t all culture and history. Bairro Alto is the center of nightlife1 with various restaurants and bars where melancholic1 traditional Portuguese music can also be heard. Follow that with a dive into the spectacular oceanarium1 and spend your nights indulging in the city’s gastronomic delights or bar hopping through the cobbled alleys.
The Lisbon coasts hosts some fine sandy1 beaches at Casceis and Estero, fishing1 villages like Sesimbra and the forests and magical architecture of Sintra with its rural palaces1 and stunning vistas1 from Lisbon to the wild Atlantic. If that’s not enough, take a boat1 along the Sado for a nautical1 view of the coast.
Lisbon is one of Europe’s most beautiful liveable1 cities with a variety of cuisines1, cultures1 and leisure1 activities. In addition, the standard of English is generally very good, and Lisbon is connected by short and inexpensive1 flights to other major European cities.
