The ancient capital of the country Mdina is a city with a population of less than 300. Often called “The silent city”, this region is a for visitors. Located in the middle of Malta island, this city sits atop a hill and offers splendid views of the surrounding . It is estimated that Mdina was first settled in 700 BC, making it the oldest city on the island. Mdina is one of many artistic and located in Malta.
Known as the three cities Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea are three fortified towns found on the of Malta. Originally,  these cities were the political and center of the country prior to the building of Valletta. Today they remain important harbor towns and icons of the area’s history.  
Largely by tourists, they also offer a glimpse at in Malta. One of Malta’s most historically significant cities, Vittoriosa is sometimes called the cradle of Maltese history. Originally known as Birgu, name was changed to Vittoriosa to reflect its role in the area’s history. Located on the grand harbor, this city lies across from Valletta. Because of its location, Vittoriosa is home of one of the islands oldest ,Fort St Angelo. Senglea is a small city and Malta’s most heavily . The city has preserved its artistic legacy with architecture and located throughout.
