The ancient capital of the country Mdina is a walled city with a population of less than 300. Often “The silent city”, this region is a must see for visitors. Located in the middle of Malta island, this fortified city atop a hill and offers splendid views of the surrounding countryside. It is estimated that Mdina was first settled in 700 BC, making it the oldest city on the island. Mdina is one of many artistic and architectural triumphs located in Malta.
Known as the three cities Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea are three fortified towns found on the island of Malta. Originally,  these cities the political and cultural center of the country prior to the building of Valletta. Today they remain important harbor towns and icons of the area’s history.  
Largely by tourists, they also offer a glimpse at everyday life in Malta. One of Malta’s most historically significant cities, Vittoriosa is sometimes called the cradle of Maltese history. Originally as Birgu, its name was changed to Vittoriosa to reflect its victorious role in the area’s history. Located on the grand harbor, this city lies across from Valletta. Because of its strategic location, Vittoriosa is home of one of the islands fortification,Fort St Angelo. Senglea is a small city and Malta’s most heavily populated. The city preserved its artistic legacy with remarkable architecture and sculptures located throughout.
