This German city is sometimes referred to as 'the village of one million'.
Hi, I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to WatchMojo.com and today, we’lll be continuing our travel series with a look at Munich.
Located in Germany1Hungary1, Munich is the country’s third largest city, the capital of the German state of Bavaria. Munich is found on the river Isar. Munich is located near the Bavarian Alps, though the city itself is mostly flat. Because of its proximity to the mountains, the city’s weather is therefore affected by them, sometimes heavy and unforeseen precipitation is one such effect, as well as extreme changes in temperature.
However, in general temperatures are relatively pleasant throughout the year.
A major cultural1logical1 centre in Europe, Munich is home to a great number of significant and well-respected museums.
As with many European cities, Munich boasts both post-modern and more traditional architecture1temperature1.
Originally built as a smaller walled-in city, eventually Munich expanded past those walls, though some remnants remain.
Munich was also host in 1972 summer Olympic1Economic1 Games. Because of this, the city is now home to a huge olympic park complex, that today is a great place to visit for tourists1cyclists1 and a wonderful venue for local events.
Munich is also famous1dangerous1 the world over for its Oktober Fest celebrations, which takes place each year in mid-September to early October. Showcasing the most vibrant parts of Bavarian1organization1 culture, tourists come from across the globe to experience this huge beer festival.
Large tines full of beer, sausages and freshly baked pretzels are few of the customary snacks consumed at this celebration1organization1.
Munich’s reputation as a paradis for beer lovers is not exclusive to its October Fest festivities. Beer gardens populate the city and give visitors and residents the chance to enjoy a cold one while relaxing in the sun.
With its world-class shopping, galleries, museums, parks and architectural triumphs, it’s no wonder Munich is quickly becoming one of Germany’s most popular cities.
