Its capital and the largest city is Bucharest, the 6th largest city in the EU with almost 2.5 million people. There are 263 in Romania, out of which 25 have a population of more than 100 000, while 8 cities count more than 300 000 inhabitants.

Romania is situated in the part of Central Europe, and shares borders with to the northwest, to the south west, to the south, the and to the south east and to the north and the Republic of to the east. Romania is the second largest country in the area after . Romania’s territory features splendid mountains, beautiful rolling hills, fertile plains and numerous rivers and lakes. The Carpathian mountains, also known as the Transylvanian Alps, traverse the center of the country, bordered on both sides by foothills and finally the great plains of the outer rim. Forests cover over one quarter of the country and the legendary Danube river forms one of the biggest and most interesting wetlands in the world, the Danube delta.
Romania has a temperate similar to the north east of the United States with four distinct seasons. There are significant regional differences of the climate between the different regions of Romania. Spring is with mornings and nights and days. Summer is quite warm with extended days. The hottest areas in summer are the lowlands in southern and eastern Romania where 100 degrees Fahrenheit is often reached in July and August. Autumn is and cool, with fields and trees producing colorful foliage. Winters can be cold, especially in the mountains. While not the rule, snowfalls may occur throughout the country from December to mid-March.
A number of architectural in Romania have been designated UNESCO world heritage sites. From medieval times, there is the historic center of Sighisoara, a town founded by German Craftsmen and merchants. There are also a number of churches, such as fortified churches in Transylvania, and Danube delta is Europe’s largest wetland reserve.
