Tina is talking about her life at school.

When I was in middle school, my daily life Monday through Friday was pretty consistent from day to day. Some days, my before or after school activities would differ, but mostly, school from Monday through Friday was pretty similar every day. At my middle school, school started at 7:45 every morning for every student and each school day ended at 2:15 in the afternoon. Every student had 6 classes every day, for 50 minutes each. These were called “periods”, so, for example, everyone would go to their first period class from 7:45 to 8:35, then have 5 minutes to change classrooms and go to their second period class. Required subjects for everyone were English, math, science, and Social Studies (which was like a civilization class), and then we’d have 2 periods where we would take an elective class, like physical education (which we called P.E.), or health, a foreign language (like Spanish, French, or German), band class or symphony, or an art class, like pottery or photography. We had lots of choices on elective classes. Our electives would change based on the year, our personal interests, and our class requirements. We were not allowed to leave school during the day, so everyone would eat lunch on the school campus – we would either buy food in the cafeteria or bring a sack-lunch from home. Since every student finished class at 2:15 in the afternoon, we had time to either stay after school for a club meeting or school sports practice, or just go home to work on homework or do other activities.
